Christening and naming ceremony

Christening has been important to Estonians over the years; it insured that the child is protected from the evil. The ceremony was held at a church or at home. The name for the baby was chosen after a grandparent or godparent, also after a holyday near the date of the child’s birth date. Naming ceremony lasted for days.

At our museums wooden church, Sutlepa chapel you can have a beautiful christening ceremony and a nice party at Kolu inn or on the swing grounds.

  • Christening

The christening will be held at Sutlepa chapel, which is decorated for the special event. After the ceremony you can spend some time with family and friends at the Kolu inn or at the swing grounds to make this beautiful day even more memorable.

  • Naming ceremony

The purpose of a naming ceremony is to present the new individual to the community. It ensures that the child is a part of something greater, and places the child under the protection of those present. Dancing and playing at the naming ceremony gives a good push to the life wheel of the baby.

Lovely gathering with family and friends at the masters’ chamber at Kolu inn or at the barnroom of Seto farm is a good way to welcome your baby to the world.
